The USDA Forest Service Resource Assistants Program, in partnership with The Greening Youth Foundation, presents a unique opportunity for recent and soon-to-be college graduates passionate about natural resource management and conservation. Program Overview

Paid Internship: The RAP program offers participants a structured and supportive environment to gain hands-on experience. Interns receive weekly stipends, ensuring they are compensated fairly for their work and dedication.

Financial Support: To alleviate financial burdens and support interns in their transition, the program includes:

  • $1,000 Monthly Housing Stipend: This stipend helps cover living expenses, ensuring that participants can focus on their work and professional growth without the stress of housing costs.
  • $2,000 Professional Development Stipend: This stipend is allocated for professional development activities, allowing interns to enhance their skills, attend workshops, and participate in relevant training sessions.

Direct Hire Authority (DHA): One of the most significant benefits of the RAP program is the Direct Hire Authority (DHA). After completing 960 hours of service, interns are eligible to transition into permanent positions within the Forest Service without going through the standard competitive hiring process. This streamlines their entry into a fulfilling career and recognizes their dedication and contributions.

Duration varies depending on the position; interns may serve as a Resource Assistant for either 8- or 12-month tenures.
