Angelou Ezeilo, J.D. is a 2016 Ashoka Fellow, social entrepreneur, and international systems change leader working at the intersection of environmental sustainability, equity, and youth empowerment. She currently serves as Co-President of Ashoka Africa and Vice President of Empathy and Childhood Strategy, leading operations across 24 African countries and advancing initiatives that position young people as agents of systems change.
Angelou is the Founder and former CEO of the Greening Youth Foundation (GYF), which she co-founded in 2005 to create conservation-to-career pipelines for underrepresented youth. Under her leadership, GYF built landmark partnerships with the U.S. National Park Service, U.S. Forest Service, and Bureau of Land Management, while expanding programming into Nigeria, Ghana, and Liberia to address youth unemployment through environmental stewardship.
She is also the Founder and Managing Director of Engage, Connect, Protect LLC, a consultancy focused on ESG strategy, SDG alignment, and environmental equity. A Juris Doctor graduate of the University of Florida and a Spelman College alumna, Angelou is the author of Engage, Connect, Protect (2019) and a globally recognized voice in environmental justice, policy advocacy, and youth-led change.
The Greening Youth Foundation’s (GYF) mission is to engage under-represented youth and young adults while connecting them to the outdoors and careers in conservation. GYF’s cultural-based environmental education programming engages children from local communities and exposes them to healthy lifestyle choices in order to create an overall healthy community.
