Dr. Florence Anoruo

Dr. Florence Anoruo is known for her exemplary teaching, research, mentoring, and leadership role in many university capacity building initiatives, especially in the areas of plant and agricultural, and environmental, food, and climate justices, sustainability, wellness, and nutrition. Dr. Anoruo is a Plant Physiologist, Ecologist, Environmental Scientist, a faculty in the Department of Biological and Physical Sciences, an Associate Research Scientist, and Project Director Emerging Crop Research of South Carolina State University 1890 Research, and Extension at South Carolina State University. Dr. Anoruo is also a Department of Energy (DOE) Brookhaven National Laboratory Visiting Scientist. Notable among her research endeavors is Establishment of a Biofuel Feedstock Research Field Station, regenerative agriculture, agro-education, phytoremediation of heavy metals, sustainable production of Industrial Hemp and other emerging crops, and investigating the anti-microbial and anti-viral properties of many tropical and African plant species. She has also received over 7 million dollars in funded projects from Federal agencies (USDA, NIH, DOE, NOAA, NRCS, NSF, and Dept. of Education) and NGO’s. Dr. Florence Anoruo was recently appointed to the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Science Advisory Board and serves on the USDA-NIFA Higher Education Challenge Panel.
