Jamila is the daughter of two military veterans who have instilled in her the importance of community stewardship and has been a life-long volunteer. She is a nonprofit professional with a background in nonprofit, recreation, and athletic administration. She received a Bachelor’s of Science in Recreation Administration from North Carolina Central University where she was a softball student-athlete and studied athletic administration, leisure studies, and park services.
Jamila has always loved the outdoors, volunteering and competing as an athlete. She also interned with Marketing & Game operations for NCCU Athletics Department and volunteered for several recreation organizations including The Boys and Girls Club, Durham Parks and Recreation, and RTP Kids. Most recently, Jamila worked with the Entrepreneurship Department at the North Carolina Rural Center where she implemented policies and programs that encourage the start-up and growth of locally owned companies in rural North Carolina through the N.C. Microenterprise Loan Program.
Joining the Greening Youth Foundation allows Jamila to continue providing service to underrepresented communities and provide professional development opportunities for minority young-adults.
