REI Grant

In 2007 Greening Youth Foundation (GYF) began as an environmental educational organization, conducting conservation lessons in elementary schools throughout Gwinnett County. GYF has grew from a team of three non-paid volunteers to a staff of over 20 full time employees and consultants.

The focus and mission remains the same, to engage under-represented youth and young adults, while connecting them to the outdoors and careers in conservation. GYF’s culturally based environmental education programming engages children and young adults from local communities and exposes them to healthy lifestyles choices as well career opportunity in the green job sector. These efforts combined provides opportunity to create an overall healthy community for generations to come.

GYF has long partnered with REI as we collectively work to connect underrepresented youth and young adults to the outdoors. GYF is a proud recipient of the 2021-2022 REI Co-op Philanthropy Grant. This $20,000 grant will help GYF continue our work in connecting black and brown youth to the outdoors through pathways in education and workforce development.

REI-Co-op believes that a life outdoors is a life well lived- and that our connection to nature is essential to our humanity. Likewise, GYF was founded on the premise that every young person should have access to the incredible natural spaces throughout Georgia and the country. GYF is appreciative of REI Co-op for your continued support of our programming and people.
