School: Howard University Major: Marketing Site: Fort McHenry National Monument/Historic Site & Hampton National Historic Site
My name is Mado-Sue Dembele and I am a recent graduate of Howard University. I earned a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing from Howard University’s School of Business.
I have acquired a deep interest in working with The Greening Youth foundation. Based on my research,I believe this position will provide me with meaningful tools that will be crucial post graduation like networking with individuals with diverse educational backgrounds. Furthermore, I specifically identified with the Organization’s investment in developing students and recent graduates by coordinating meaningful projects and encouraging mentorship. Lastly, I look forward to working for an initiative that focuses on the importance of attending a Historically Black College or University. It is extremely rare to find programs that emphasize the importance of History amongst African Americans. Knowledge of self is Power! While studying Marketing, I interned at WHUR 96.3 FM in the promotions department. My daily responsibilities included attending meetings, assisting with event coordination, conducting Market research and executing station events. At WHUR, I gained tools that allow me to incorporate marketing and communication skills across multiple departments such as Programming and News.In addition, I gained skills like working in a professional environment and understanding how to navigate and execute projects in a cross functional work environment.
During my HBCUI summer, I plan on understanding the responsibilities of the many roles within the National Park Service. In addition, I am excited about working with the curators at the site and gaining those hands on skills such as conducting research and building a network. Lastly, I am eager to gain these skills all while working towards preserving and understanding my history. Knowledge of self is Power!
