School: Tuskegee University Major: Elementary Education Site: Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve
My name is Kayla Denise Petty. I was born and raised in Huntsville, Alabama. I currently attend the Illustrious Tuskegee University. I am a Junior , Elementary Education major. I am heavily involved with the Student Government Association, I serve on the Health, Events, and the Treasury Committees. I am also apart of the Alabama Club and S.A.S.S.Y Women. I served as the 2015-2016 Miss Alpha Phi Omega, where I am still considered a Sweetheart for the Fraternity. I also participate in various community service events around campus and in my church. I enjoy going to the movies and traveling during my free time. My absolute favorite place in the whole world would be Walt Disney World.
I am most looking forward to being able to learn the history of the Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve and working with the National Park Service. I have worked/volunteered at the George Washington Carver Museum on campus and I cannot wait to broaden my horizons. I have a passion for learning history and looking up old archives. I’m also looking forward to making new friends and gaining mentors through this internship. I hope to improve my leadership skills as well as have fun throughout my time in Jacksonville, Florida.
