School: Savannah State University Major: Africana Studies Site: Olmsted Center for Landscape Preservation
Greetings! My name is Dejanerra Mugford. I was born in Waukegan, Illinois just 30 minutes outside of the city of Chicago. I am currently a sophomore at Savannah State University majoring in Africana Studies. While on Savannah State campus I am involved in a few organizations that adhere to my everyday interests and missions. I currently serve as the Community Outreach chairman for the Savannah State Collegiate Chapter of NAACP. As Community Outreach chairman it is my job to create programs for the communities on and off campus and also bring awareness to social issues within the Black community. My interests include writing blogs on political issues in America, writing poetry and teaching the youth about Black history. With this internship I hope to learn more about historical figures of my culture, experience the work environment for historical research, and explore a different community to involve myself in.
